Both Oral B Genius X and Luxe connect with Oral B app via Bluetooth enabled feature. When connected the brush tracks on how you brush your teeth, where you missed, and where you brush harshly and give you a score to beat next time. You also get real-time coaching on how to clean better. But, what is the difference between them? Find out below.
Difference between Oral B Genius X 10000 vs X Luxe Specs
The key difference is that the Oral B Genius X 10000 electric toothbrush comes with 3 brush heads while Luxe comes with 7.
- Oral B Genius X 10000 has CrossAction, FlossAction and, 3D White but, Luxe has 2 CrossAction, 2 FlossAction, 2 GumCare and one 3D White
- With 7 brush heads, Luxe costs more than the Genius X 10000 Limited and none of them includes a brush head storage unit when compared to Sonicare 9750.
- Both Genius X 10000 Limited and Luxe employ ‘artificial intelligence system’. What this technology does is that it adapts to your brushing style and offer you real-time coaching on how to improve your oral health. It tracks where you have brushes and where missed.
This is a result of research done to thousands of people studying their cleaning habits. Therefore the moment you start brushing, the Genius X and Luxe knows which technique you are using and offer you tutorials on how to do it better using a smartphone app.
Additionally, GENIUS X /Luxe makes brushing your teeth more convenient when compared to brushing your teeth with Genius 8000. With the 8000 model, ‘position detection technology, was introduced in 2016. For it to work you have to face your Smartphone camera when brushing. And, hence you are given a suction cup as a phone holder that can be attached on the mirror or tiles.
But with Genius X, the need of standing in one place facing the camera has been removed. Using its inbuilt sensors, X tracks the exact position of your toothbrush, areas you have brushed, and those you have missed or brushed hard and suggest in real-time how to improve it.
It works by connecting your toothbrush to the manufacturer app via Bluetooth and start brushing. As you brush, the teeth graphic shows on the phone screen, turning from blue to white as you brush them until you finish brushing them all. Any remaining indicated blue color means you have not yet brushed that area.
As you brush you get live feedback, where you have missed, if you brush too hard, the amount of time used, and suggestions on how to do it better.
Sometimes you will need to brush for more than 2 minutes to cover all areas until you get used to brushing correctly in 2 minutes time and the AI adapts to your cleaning habit.
Notice that you do not have to use the app all the time because the brush stores up 30 brushing sessions and sync the data the moment you open the app.
You can go through the data to check which area needs more attention and which cleaning skill needs to be learned; and how better you are in general at cleaning your teeth and gums.
Signing in to the ORAL-B Me account will help you to back up the data and sync into another phone when needs arise.

Cleaning Modes
There are 6 cleaning modes on both toothbrushes to cater to all your cleaning needs for good oral health: daily cleaning, deep cleaning, gum care, sensitive, whitening and, tongue cleaning. While you can use any brush head with any cleaning mode’ it is advised to pair it up in order to achieve the best result possible.
Like other Oral B top models, Its brush handle shows only modes icons hence you need to learn and keep in mind which icon represents which cleaning mode.
Apart from that, the brush handle has 2 buttons, one for switching on and off and another one for helping you choose which cleaning mode to go for, represented by a down arrow.
Battery life
Both Genius X 10000 Limited and Luxe use a built-in Lithium-ion battery that when fully charged lasts up to two weeks time. The battery flashed red when the charge is low and it takes up to 12 hours to fully charge it.
Apart from that, there are three illuminated bars on the brush handle that show battery power status, and how much power remains.
Travel Case
You get a USB smart travel case that can charge your brush and your phone at the same time. The case has 2 slots, one for charging the toothbrush and another one for charging any USB-compatible device like a phone and tablet.
The case can store one handle and up to two brush heads and it also includes a place for holding a phone when opens. The best part is that you can store your brush on its case while charging it.
When charging on its case, you will see a green LED light on the bottom, when the battery is full the light will go off.
Notice: You can not charge your phone via a USB charger rather the USB port on the travel case is for charging your phone or tablet simultaneously using your own USB cable.
For phone, you plug the travel case into the electric socket via 100-240v power adaptor and you might need a plug adaptor if travelling abroad to make it work.
2 Minute Timer
You get built-in 2-minute timer with quadrapacer to help you brush at the dentist-recommended two minutes brushing time, twice daily. The pacer buzzes and the 3D SmartRing at the top of the handle flashes after every 30 seconds to alert you to move from cleaning one mouth-section to another until all four mouth sections are covered.
Visible Pressure Sensor
Each Genius X and Luxe has a visible pressure sensor on top of its handle, 360 SmartRing that can be customized into choice color. There are 12 colors to choose from with the default being red. The role of this 3D pressure sensor is to alert you when you brush hard. A reduced pressure sensor warning will also show up on the screen of your phone if you are using the app.
The brush also includes a built-in gum pressure sensor that employs gum guard technology to protect your gums from receding. What this technology does is it detects if you harshly brush your gums and slow down the brushing speed until you reduce the applied pressure.
Small, Unique Round Brush Head
Both Genius X and Luxe features small round brush head that offers tooth to tooth cleaning experience with the ability to remove up to 100 percent plaque along the gum line.
Colour Option
Oral-B GENIUS X Electric Toothbrush and Luxe come in a wide range of colors to choose from: Sakura pink, rose gold, black, white, and orchid purple.
Which is Better, Oral B Genius X or Luxe?
Since they both share the same features apart from the number of brush heads then, which is better depends really on whether you need extra brush heads and pay 20 to 40 dollars more. If not then buying
Oral B Genius X 10000 Limited electric toothbrush is better, otherwise the Oral-B GENIUS X LUXE Electric Toothbrush With 7 Oral-B Replacement Brush Heads & Toothbrush Case also makes sense. Like all Oral B electric toothbrushes, you get 2 years warranty.
